Day 1: KUNMING – STONE FOREST – KUNMING (B/L/D)
After breakfast we will take a stroll through the nearby Green Lake Park, a popular gathering point for the local population, to see the locals engaged in their morning workouts, practice Tai Chi, show off their birds and enjoy social dancing. Next we drive to the Stone Forest of Lunan, where years of rain and erosion have left behind a bizarre and impressive landscape of limestone pillars that, with a little imagination, do indeed resembles a forest. We have a walk through the maze of paths and walkways leading through this natural wonderland and learn more about the Sani people, an ethnic minority populating the area.

DAY 2: KUNMING – FLIGHT TO ZHONGDIAN (B/L/D)
Fly to Zhongdian, which has recently changed its name and is now called “Shangri-La”. Zhongdian is situated amongst a stunning landscape on the eastern Tibetan plateau at about 3,200 meters above sea level. Upon arrival you’ll drive to a viewpoint from where you enjoy a breath taking view over the scenic Napa Lake and its surroundings. We will visit the picturesque old town on the edge of the lake and take a walking tour before heading to your hotel. During the remains of the afternoon there is time to enjoy a massage at the hotel spa. Dinner will be at your hotel.

DAY 3: ZHONGDIAN (SHANGRI-LA)
In the morning we take a walk to the Songtsam Monastery, a 300-year-old impressive Tibetan Monastery. From a historical point of view, the Ganden Sumtseling Gompa is very significant to the region because the 5th Dalai Lama inaugurated it personally in the 17th century. We will tour the monastery and learn more about the Tibetan Buddhism on the way.
Drive back to the hotel where you can enjoy a massage, have a walk in the vicinity of the hotel or simply enjoy the beautiful hotel.

DAY 4: ZHONGDIAN – BENZILAN (B/L/D) (87KM / 2.5 hrs)
This morning we leave Zhongdian and head further north towards the town of Nixi, famous for its black pottery production. After Nixi we will head to the town of Benzilan, located on the shores of the Yangtze River it has a constantly mild and fertile climate suitable for agriculture. Check in at the hotel and lunch.
In the afternoon we will take a relaxing walk to a secluded Tibetan village high up in the mountains. Dinner and overnight accommodation takes place at a tastefully furnished small boutique lodge outside Benzilan.

DAY 5: BENZILAN – DEQIN (B/L/D) (100km/ca 2.5 hrs)
About 10km north of Benzilan we will visit one of the most important Tibetan monasteries in the area, the Dhondrumping Gompa that originally was constructed in 1667, and the Shuzhong Nunnery. The Dhondrumping Monastery and the Shuzhong Nunnery are both sub-monasteries of the Songtsam Monastery in Zhongdian.
After Benzilan the road leaves the Yangtze Valley and winds its way up the flanks of Mount Bai Ma Xue Shan, over the Ya Kou Pass, which lies on 4,292 meters above sea level. On the other side we will enjoy our first breath taking views of Meili Xueshan.
We will continue to Feilai Si for the overnight accommodation, a beautiful hotel with views of the 6,700m high Meili Mounatin only 50 meters from the famous sightseeing spot.

DAY 6: BENZILAN – TACHENG (B/L/D) (140km/3.5 HRS)
This morning we leave the beautiful Lodge and head back south to Nixi before the road winds its way down a steep slope into the impressive Yangtze valley. Here the Yangtze River is still called the Jin Sha Jiang (Golden Sand River). At 6400km long, the Yangtze River is the 3rd longest river in the world and a true marvel of nature. We will follow the river in a southern direction towards Tacheng, an idyllic village tucked away in a small side valley of the Yangtze River. Check In at the tastefully furnished boutique style lodge, where we will stop for lunch.
The afternoon leaves time to take a stroll through the nearby village or relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery from the comfort of the balcony of your room.

DAY 7: TACHENG – TIGER LEAPING GORGE – LIJIANG (B) (160km/4 hrs)
In the Morning we will visit the Tacheng Nature Reserve, home to the Yunnan snub nosed golden monkeys. They get their names from the short stump of a nose on their round faces, with nostrils arranged facing forward. Some of the monkeys do not seem to be disturbed by the presence of humans, which offers a good chance to observe these endangered animals from a close distance.
In the afternoon we will drive along the Yangtze River to Qiaotou located at the entrance of the Tiger Leaping Gorge. Wedged between the Jade Dragon Mountain and the Haba Mountain range the Tiger Leaping Gorge is reputedly the world’s deepest canyon. We walk down into the gorge and witness the power of the water squeezing its way through the narrow gorge, at some places only 15m wide.

DAY 8: LIJIANG (B)
First thing in the morning you will take a stroll through the seemingly endless and, on first sight, confusing narrow lanes and canals crisscrossing this picturesque old town. We also learn more about the secrets of the mystic Naxi culture; the UNESCO as a World Heritage site listed part of Lijiang old town in 1992. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the Old Town on your own or enjoy a massage at the Hotel Spa.

DAY 9: LIJIANG DEPARTURE
Transfer to the airport or train station.
